Hello Dr. Phiri, and hello to Winstone Zulu as well. As for myself, I am not so convinced by Winstone that his fungal infection had anything to do with HIV. Many people suffer fungal infections, even HIV negatives, after taking a lot of antibiotics. Winstone was on very intense antibiotics for his TB. Stress increases the frequency of fungal infection. Winstone was very stressed over whether or not he should be taking HIV drugs. One question I have, is if his doctor gave him antifungal medications plus HIV drugs, or are HIV drugs also antifungal? I would bet you a dollar to a donut that he was given antifungal drugs, which are the reason for his recovery, and that it had nothing to do with ARV's.
As such, his fungal infection is most certainly not proof that HIV causes AIDS. Neither is his mention of a friend that was near death but recuperated when he had seen this person years later. There are just as many people who took ART drugs and still died.
And there are many people who are HIV positive who never get sick without the ART drugs. And there are many who suffer extreme problems and death because of taking the ART drugs. It is foolish to look at any such cases as Winstone or his friend to make a determination that ART drugs are the solution, or that HIV is or is not the cause of AIDS.
The evidence that Winstone gives, is certainly not evidence that ART drugs are what cured him or his friend, and it is also not evidence that HIV is the cause of AIDS! However, if he believes in them, or if anyone believes in them, they certainly should take them or they will scare and stress themselves sick. The mind is very powerful and has been shown over and over again to be one of the biggest factors in recovering from or coming down with illness, not just a virus, and not just HIV!
