CIA Paramilitary Teams begin in Spring 2000 working with Anti-Taliban Forces
Intelnote- Around this time, Spring 2000, special CIA paramilitary teams begin “working with tribes and warlords in southern Afghanistan” and help “create a significant new network in the region of the Taliban’s greatest strength.” Writes the Washington Post 11/18/2001. Journalist Bob Woodward will later report that from 2000 through March 2001, the CIA also deploys paramilitary teams at least five times into Afghanistan to work with the Northern Alliance in the north part of the country.
