Syrian Security Attacks Protestors outside the Libyan Embassy
onlineredaktion - The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) has condemned the actions of the Syrian security apparatus on Wednesday (23/2/2011), in which they attacked Syrian citizens protesting outside of the Libyan embassy in Damascus in support of the Libyan people’s choice for freedom and to condemn the massacres being perpetrated by the Colonel Muamar al-Gadaffi’s regime against their own people.
News has reported from eye-witnesses, and was also confirmed by videos taken, that the protesters were subjected to extreme beating, were attacked with sticks, and sworn at with very base and vile language.
Sources have also reported that a large number of protesters were arrested and treated in a very ill manner by the Syrian intelligence. Some sources reported that those detained were 20, out of approximately 200 protestors. Among those who were arrested, these names have been revealed: Iyaas Miqdad, Ibrahim al-Mur, Jwaan Iyo, Rudi Iyo, Muthana Hamzawi, Urwah Miqdad, Taha Mohammed, Ghassan Zakariya, Mohammed Zarzour, Amr Kawkash.
The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) asserts that peaceful protest is a right of the citizens found in the Syrian constitution, and calls upon the Syrian Authorities to put an end to its attack of protestors and release all those detained immediately.
