Bill Clinton and the list of donors for his charity – a closer look
Dr. Alexander von Paleske ----- 10. August 2009 ---- Former US President Bill Clinton is as busy as ever. Not accompanying his wife Hillary on her foreign trips, but collecting money for the Clinton Foundation from donors and giving it to the needy. However looking at some of the donors, one may ask questions.
Let’s have a closer look at the list
First and foremost is to mention Frank Giustra, not just a donor, but a friend. We mentioned him already in another article.
Giustra is on the board of Clinton's charity and Clinton on the board of Giustras charity, the Clinton-Giustra–Sustainable-Growth-Initiative (CGSGI).
Clinton helped Giustra to secure uranium mining rights in Kasakhstan, a country blessed with plentiful uranium and little democracy. Subsequently Giustra donated millions of Dollars to Bill Clinton’s charity.
Looks like "Scratch my back and I scratch yours."
Quote from Giustra:
The only thing that always worked for me is generosity, Generosity can be very profitable.
Giustras Charity, CGSGI, is however not really global as such, but limited to countries with mines, creating good will, where he needs it. On the website of his company Endeavour Financial one can find the following statement:
Endeavour recognizes the importance of contributing to the communities in which both it and its client companies operate. Endeavour's core corporate social responsibility engagement is with the Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative (CGSGI), an initiative launched by Ex-President Bill Clinton and Frank Giustra in June 2007. CGSGI is beginning its work in partnership with an industry that has a truly global reach: the natural resources sector.
By increasing the scope, scale, impact, and sustainability of social and economic development efforts in communities where the natural resource industries are an important part of the economy, CGSGI hopes to develop a model for how all corporate sectors can spur sustainable social and economic development as an integral part of their operations in the developing world.
Bill and Frank in Peru
Of late Bill Clinton visited Peru, together with Giustra, flying there with Giustra’s luxurious MD 87 plane.
One of Endeavour’s clients operating in Peru is the mining company IMA. So Peru was a suitable target for CGSGI.
Giustra and Clinton donated 10 Million US Dollars for eye operations (cataract).
A long article in the British TIMES recognized the good work and brought it to the attention of a broader audience.
Not mentioned, however, was “Operation Milagro”, eye-operations carried out in Latin America by Cuban doctors with no mining rights involved.
Who else
Let’s see, who else is on the donor list.
We continue with Andre Agapov. This man is certainly not a stranger to us.
His company Rusoro- Mining is a client of Giutstra’s Endeavour Financial and mining Gold in Latin America. However, the government of Thailand allegedly accused Agapov of unlawful deals with the criminal duo Krirkiat Jalichandra and Rakesh Saxena. Again, both have been reported about here extensively
Next on the list is – for a change - a mercenary company, named XE, better known under it’s former name Blackwater. The company made headlines in 2007, when their employees in Iraq killed 17 innocent civilians.
Also Alfonso Fanjul seems to be generous. A sugar-Baron from Florida, whose company allegedly contributed to the pollution of the the Everglades National Park.
Fanjul lobbied successfully for keeping the sugar import -tax at a high level, so that he had not to compete against cheaper imports from Third World countries.
As Giustra said, generosity can be very profitable.
Another interesting person on the list is Denise Rich, ex-wife of Marc Rich.
Marc was on the “FBI most wanted list” for many years for alleged tax evasion, wire fraud, racketeering and illegal oil trading with Iran. Moreover he was exporting goods to Iran, during and after the hostage crisis in Tehran, despite a US trade embargo.
Who cares, certainly neither Marc Rich nor his second home country Israel, which exported weapons including weapons of mass destruction to Iran.
To evade prosecution in the US, Marc Rich moved to Switzerland in 1993,, where he still lives.
His ex-wife and song writer Denise donated to Clinton's charity and then successfully lobbied for a pardon of her ex-husband.
Bill Clinton pardoned him on 20th January 2001, his very last day in office.
A pardon just in time is fine.
Lastly not to forget William S. Lerach, lawyer and convicted to two years imprisonment for bribery .
Quite a fascinating crowd of donors. Pecunia non olet - money does not stink - the Romans said. That seems to be Bill Clinton’s motto as well.
Politicians, Diplomats, Crooks and Mines
Adnan Khashoggi, Rakesh Saxena and the Spiderweb
A Coup for a Mountain of Wonga
When the Regular Army goes, the Mercenaries come
Hypo-Alpe-Adria – A Bank-Scandal in Austria?
British Mercenary Simon Mann's last journey?
US aganist Iran (Gerhard Merz)
Conflicts in Africa - Millions suffered, a few became millionaires, one of them: Viktor Bout (Butt)
Bulelani Ngcuka and his Apartheid Soldiers
Ganoven, Goldgräber, Geheimdienste und Diplomaten
Gold, Uran, Frank Giustra und Bill Clinton
Der Fall Hypo-Alpe-Adria- Bank (Skandalpe) - Ein österreichisch-deutsches Schmierenstück.
